Summer 2024
When the 2020 pandemic shuttered theaters everywhere, artists flocked to Zoom. We noticed that plays performed on Zoom felt flat.
We wondered why.
Then it hit us. Because it is impossible to make eye contact via Zoom, any scene written for 2 or more people would always feel somehow false.
It dawned on us that one form of theater might translate just fine to the Zoom box. Monologue.
And so the Hear Me Out New American Monologue Competition was founded to encourage idle playwrights and screenwriters to explore one form that could provide them ongoing connection with their audience.
