Jerry Kaplan on the Some1Speaking experience.
“Roland Tec has done a remarkable thing with his Hear Me Out Monologue series: he has brought back the audience! With a simple solution, he bridges the divide between performer and audience by creating an intimate aural connection between both sides of the monologue. Being able to hear the audience respond is vital to the performance experience, but now it is even amped up to an intimate level, wherein the subtle intake of breath or a rueful chuckle registers among the active sea of audience response. The sharing of sound makes all the difference in the world. A fantastic platform to reconnect with the audience.”

Playwright and activist Faye Sholiton on what Hear Me Out has meant to her.
“The pandemic forced everyone in theater to think creatively about new collaborations and new formats. As a playwright, I am particularly grateful to Roland Tec. He has devised a unique way to nurture playwrights and keep the theater experience interactive. He focuses on monologues, thereby avoiding much of the awkwardness of Zoom. He provides each playwright with a rehearsal under the expert, gentle direction of Suzanne Bachner. The result of all the collaborative energy put into Someone1 Speaking and HearMeOut Monologues is excellent theater and strengthened community. I’ve never seen anything quite like it and I am very grateful to have participated”

Some1Speaking
A year-round exploration of the art of monologue on the 1st monday of every month at 6PM, est.
RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. OUR ZOOM THEATRE HAS A CAPACITY OF 99. SO RESERVE NOW.
playwrights, actors and the rest of us gather on the first monday evening of the month to pull up a chair and hear what 5 characters have in mind.
5 new american monologues, and you and me.
Things you can count on in an unpredictable world.
House always opens at 5:45PM. Show always begins at 6PM.
Eveybody’s camera and microphone stays ON. Audiences make noise and if you depart before the end, we should feel it.
Roland will promise to keep his opening remarks to under one minute. He will fail. Every night. But not by much. And in a different way each time.
Then we’ll hear 5 new monologues performed or read by actors you won’t want to miss.
After we’ve heard all 5 pieces, the room opens up for free conversation about what we just witnessed together and what it might mean.
These sessions are not developmental workshops. The conversation can go wherever the room needs it to go. And we all agree that none of us have come to fix someone else’s work. We come to be moved. And to freely express that pleasure that comes from bearing witness. Period.
Don’t pretend you don’t long for that unique bond that forms when a random collection of human beings is suddenly not random anymore but linked by something shared and unmistakeable. Here we lean in to the magic of becoming an Audience.
Some1Speaking will usually take up about one hour of your Monday and never more than 90 minutes. Guaranteed.
